Although some states make getting a divorce relatively simple. The ten states below seem to actively make getting a divorce difficult. Draw your own conclusions as to why, but be warned, these states will make getting your divorce more difficult than the other states. Specifically, these states take lots of time. Each requires at least one year after filing for divorce. But many of them require a year or six-month separation time before filing. Many of them also require certain amount of time as a resident of the state. These requirements make getting a divorce in the following states very lengthy indeed.
1. Vermont:

Time for processing: 450 days.
Other: Mandatory six-months separation time before a divorce may be filed and one-year residency requirement before the divorce may be granted.
2. Rhode Island:
Cost: 120 dollars.
Time for processing: 510 days.
Other: Couples must have a five-month “cooling down” period after filing.
3. South Carolina:
Cost: 150 dollars.
Time for processing: 450 days.
Other: One-year minimum separation time before a couple may file for divorce and you must be a resident for three months before filing.
4. Arkansas:
Cost: 165 dollars:
Time for processing: 540 days.
Other: eighteen-month separation period required.
5. California:
Cost: 395 dollars.
Time for processing: 360 days.
Other: Must be a resident for six months before filing and must live separated for six months before divorce is granted.
6. New York:
Cost: 335 dollars.
Time for processing: 360 days.
Other: No separation requirement.
7. Nebraska:
Cost: 157 dollars.
Time for processing: 420 days.
Other: One year residency requirement.
8. North Carolina:

Time for processing: 360 days.
Other: One year separation requirement before filing for divorce, but intercourse between the couple is allowed during this time.
9. New Jersey:
